School Board Member Resigns Over ‘Shoot Kids’ With Allergies Joke

A school board member in an Oakland County community has resigned after joking that students with food allergies should be shot.

The topic of students’ food allergies was being discussed at the board meeting when Trustee Linda Grossmann made the off-hand comment “Well, you should just shoot them.” Grossman threw up her hands and laughed after making the remark.

Clawson Superintendent Monique Beels called the comment “insensitive and hurtful,” and a “sad attempt at humor.” The school board released a statement saying “The remarks by this Board member in no way reflect the opinion of the Clawson School District or the Board of Education.”
