Supermarkets to sell asthma inhalers over the counter (UK)

Asthma inhalers will now be available in supermarkets for the first time, enabling sufferers to get the medicine without a prescription.

Grocery giant Asda says it will start selling blue reliever inhalers over the counter; customers over the age of 16 will be able to buy two inhalers.

Asthma UK believe the new policy is interesting in principle, but have concerns on how it would work in practice.Their main concern is that people will overuse their inhalers since they have increased access to renewals and if you use your inhaler too much you may end up in hospital.

Customers will be limited to two inhalers at a time, which should last them eight weeks.
